چکیده

For service providers, it is important to know the perceived quality of a transmitted speech signal, as this can be an indicator for choosing one operator over the other. To evaluate the perceived quality, several methods have been introduced in the area of Quality of Experience (QoE), such as subjective, instrumental and physiological methods. In the current study, we expose the test participants towards several speech files, while brain activity was recorded with electroencephalography (EEG). Additionally, a subjective quality judgment is obtained after each presentation which is summarized as the mean opinion score (MOS). To validate the selected stimulus corpus, a quality predication algorithm is used which calculates quality scores based on the speech signal. The recorded EEG data were set in relation to the subjective data and show promising results. In contrast to most previous studies in the domain of QoE using EEG, the study at hand uses a standardized test paradigm proposed by the International Telecommunication Unit (ITU).

Objective estimation of perceived speech quality. I. Development of the measuring normalizing block technique

Perceived speech quality is most directly measured by subjective listening tests. These tests are often slow and expensive, and numerous attempts have been made to supplement them with objective estimators of perceived speech quality. These attempts have found limited success, primarily in analog and higher-rate, error-free digital environments where speech waveforms are preserved or nearly pre...

Towards measuring continuous acoustic feature convergence in unconstrained spoken dialogues

Acoustic/prosodic feature (a/p) convergence has been known to occur both in dialogues between humans, as well as in human-computer interactions. Understanding the form and function of convergence is desirable for developing next generation conversational agents, as this will help increase speech recognition performance and naturalness of synthesized speech. Currently, the underlying mechanisms ...

Objective estimation of perceived speech quality .II. Evaluation of the measuring normalizing block technique

Part I of this paper describes a new approach to the objective estimation of perceived speech quality. This new approach uses a simple but effective perceptual transformation and a distance measure that consists of a hierarchy of measuring normalizing blocks. Each measuring normalizing block integrates two perceptually transformed signals over some time or frequency interval to determine the av...

Improving the performance of MFCC for Persian robust speech recognition

The Mel Frequency cepstral coefficients are the most widely used feature in speech recognition but they are very sensitive to noise. In this paper to achieve a satisfactorily performance in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) applications we introduce a noise robust new set of MFCC vector estimated through following steps. First, spectral mean normalization is a pre-processing which applies to t...

A Comparison of Perceived Parental Rearing Styles and Early Maladaptive Schemas in Students with Social Anxiety and Normal Students

The present study set out to compare perceived parental rearing styles and maladaptive schemas in students with social anxiety and normal students. The statistical population of the study was comprised of all female students studying in senior high schools in Baharestan County (Tehran Province) in 2013-14 academic year. Cluster sampling method was used and 140 students were selected via Social ...
